Summary

"Marjorie Dean Macy" by Josephine Chase is a story about a young woman named Marjorie Dean, as she moves into adulthood, dealing with her friends, love life, and especially her relationship with Hal Macy while they plan to get married. The story takes place in Southern California which is expressed as being a beautiful ranch; the themes are love, personal dreams, and the difficulties young women faced in her time. Marjorie and her friend Veronica Lynne are getting ready for a fun riding trip, and they are having a lighthearted conversation. This moment shows how close they are as friends, and that they are excited about what the future holds, especially for Marjorie getting married to Hal. As they enjoy their ride through the beautiful countryside, Marjorie thinks about her feelings about getting married soon, and how her relationships with others are changing. The beginning sets the tone for the story, and gives hints of Marjorie's goals and her own difficulties as she balances love and finding herself in a changing world.
