Summary

"The Story of a Donkey" by Sophie Ségur is a heartwarming children’s tale told from the point of view of Neddy the donkey, who teaches the reader about love, kindness, and how animals should be treated. Neddy starts his journey suffering greatly, working hard labor, and experiencing the hard knocks of cruel owners only to later run away to the forest. This escape opens the door to a kinder existence, but not without a series of events, including facing revengeful actions and taking accountability for making mistakes. Eventually, Neddy learns the value of love and the possibilities of a happier life and reflects on his remarkable journey, sharing his life insights, and helping all to understand how to treat donkeys with compassion.
