Summary

"The Sleeping Beauty and other fairy tales from the Old French" retold by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch is a collection of well-known fairy tales from old French stories, probably put together in the early 1900s. This collection includes famous stories like "The Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella," "Blue Beard," and "Beauty and the Beast," filled with magical characters like fairies, princesses, and brave princes. Quiller-Couch's versions try to keep the magic and lessons of these stories alive for modern readers. The book starts with the famous story of "The Sleeping Beauty," where a king and queen wish for a child, and her birth is celebrated by fairies who give her gifts. But their happiness turns to sadness when a forgotten fairy curses Aurora to die when she pricks her finger on a spindle. Another fairy changes the curse, saying Aurora will only fall into a deep sleep until a prince's kiss wakes her. As the story continues, the princess grows up not knowing what will happen, until fate steps in, getting ready to bring together the magic of love, destiny, and saving the day that are important to the story.
