It, and Other Stories

"It, and Other Stories" by Gouverneur Morris is a compilation where adventure and suspense come together in a series of short narratives. The initial story places a protagonist on the remote Prana Beach, a setting filled with rumored gods and lurking dangers within the nearby swamps. Armed with dynamite and a gun, the main character shows resourcefulness and a dash of recklessness as he braces himself against the unknown threats that emerge from the darkness. Washed ashore after a difficult journey, the main character’s survival involves setting up booby traps while contemplating the eerie surroundings and strange myths of the beach. Through conversations with the locals and even a surprising conversation with a figure he thought was a god, the story blends action, fear, and a unexpected humor as the stories go on.

Gouverneur Morris IV (1876–1953) was an American author of pulp novels and short stories during the early 20th century.
