Summary

"Right Royal" by John Masefield is a poem about Charles Cothill, a young man with big dreams riding a horse named Right Royal. Charles is about to race, and he's put everything he has on Right Royal to win. He talks with his love, Em, about the race, and you can feel how nervous and conflicted he is. The poem paints a picture of the racetrack, with all the noise and excitement, and introduces the other horses and riders. During the race, Charles and Right Royal struggle, but their bond gets stronger, pushing Charles to keep going. The race comes down to Right Royal and another horse, Sir Lopez, in a nail-biting fight to the finish. Charles wins the race, guaranteeing a happy ending with Em, illustrating how love and hope can win even when things are unsure.
