A California Girl

"A California Girl" by Edward Eldridge is a story set in early 1900s California, following Clara Lawton as she anticipates marrying Charles Herne and stepping into a new chapter of life. The story starts with Mrs. Lawton thinking about how different Clara's life as a bride will be from her memories of earlier, more modest times. Clara, portrayed as a kind and loving young woman, gets ready for her wedding day, excited to be married. The vivid Californian setting, with its beautiful scenery and modest origins, provides a backdrop to the unfolding relationships and personal journeys of the characters, also introducing a cast of characters that give a sense of the bigger community and the parts they play.
