Summary

"Landolin" by Berthold Auerbach is a story set in the countryside, probably written a long time ago, that follows a farmer named Landolin, his daughter Thoma, and Anton, a miller's son who wants to marry her. It's all about pride, how people are different because of their family's status, and doing what you're supposed to do for your family. The story kicks off with Anton super excited to get engaged to Thoma at a fair, but things get complicated when Landolin and a guy he used to employ get into it, leading to an accident that changes everything, especially for Thoma, who now has to figure out what to do next with Anton and her life.
