Summary

"The Dalrymples" by Agnes Giberne is a story set in the English countryside during the late 1800s about family bonds and decisions. We meet the Dalrymple family and spend much of our time with Hermione and her cousin Harvey, who comes home after being gone for a good while. The story looks at the impact of love and family responsibilities through the characters relationships and life choices. When Harvey shows up, it stirs up old feelings and worries about what will happen to Hermione and the whole family. A local gardener sees Hermione as a kind-hearted person, making Harvey's uncaring feelings about his recent marriage stand out even more. As the family's lives mix together, hidden tensions rise to the surface, mainly about what people expect from Hermione. This puts a lot of pressure on everyone because of Harvey's choices and how they affect the Dalrymple home.
