Summary

"Makers of Madness" by Hermann Hagedorn is a play that shows the difficult choices leaders face when deciding between peace and war. The story takes place when tensions are rising between two groups and looks closely at how power works and what happens when big decisions are made. The play is mainly set in the court of a made-up king and his advisors, who are debating whether to fight another country called the Republic. The king has fears and goals, but his advisors, especially the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff, really want to start a war. Though the King tries to talk things out, his advisors want to fight to protect their country's reputation. As things get more intense, a choice is made to go to war, even though the King doesn't want to, showing the crazy and complicated nature of politics when things are tough.
