Summary

"Maru: A Dream of the Sea" by H. De Vere Stacpoole is a tale set in the Pacific Islands, where a young Polynesian man named Maru grapples with isolation and love amidst cultural clashes. When a smallpox epidemic decimates his tribe on the island of Fukariva, Maru inherits the kingship, burdened by grief and the survival instincts of his people. His life takes a turn when he's kidnapped and later shipwrecked, leading to his rescue by Talia, a girl from an uncharted island; their bond blossoms into love as they try to build a life together. Tragedy strikes when Talia drowns. Maru must confront cultural taboos and his lingering love as he seeks peace within the ocean's expanse.
