"The Stainless Steel Rat" by Harry Harrison is a science fiction story about a brilliant thief named James Bolivar diGriz, or "Slippery Jim," who lives in a future world with almost no crime; he’s one of the few who can still pull off amazing heists. The book questions what it means to be an individual and have freedom in a world that's too controlled. Jim plans to steal a lot of money from an armored truck, using his smarts to do everything just right. But when the police seem to know what he's going to do, he meets the Special Corps, a secret group that hires criminals. They offer Jim a job, and he has to decide if he wants to become a hero instead of a villain, making readers laugh and think about what's right and wrong.
