Summary

Tales and Novels of J. de La Fontaine — Volume 04 by Jean de La Fontaine is a compilation of 17th-century tales offering a window into human nature and relationships. The collection uses fables and narratives to shed light on love, jealousy, and the foolishness of people. It presents four stories including "The Old Man's Calendar," about a mismatch in marriage where a young woman is more interested in a pirate than her old husband; "The Avaricious Wife and Tricking Gallant," highlighting how greed and infidelity can lead to deception; "The Jealous Husband," uncovering how extreme jealousy can cause controlling behavior; and "The Gascon Punished," telling of a braggart's comeuppance. La Fontaine’s stories offer both amusement and thoughtful insights.
