Summary

"A Cold Night for Crying" by Stephen Marlowe is set in a future where aliens called the Karadi control Earth, using sneaky techniques and control of society. Grief, doubt, and what it means to be human are big topics, centering on the Friedlander family and the possible loss of their son, Freddie. When Mr. and Mrs. Friedlander are told Freddie died when his plane crashed fighting against the Karadi, Mrs. Friedlander refuses to believe it, while Mr. Friedlander tries to accept it. An old neighbor says Freddie might be alive and fighting with the rebels. Now, Mr. Friedlander faces a tough choice, as he struggles with hope for his son's life and tries to process all the angles and challenges of the alien's oppressive government.
