A Vision of Venus; Or, A Midsummer-Night's Nightmare

"A Vision of Venus; Or, A Midsummer-Night's Nightmare" by Harry Pleon is a funny play told in two parts that mixes comedy and make-believe, probably looking at ideas of love, wanting, and mix-ups in a funny way. Inspired by another story, it tells of Alphonzo Latherum, a hairdresser who accidentally makes a Venus statue alive by putting a magic ring on her finger. Venus, waking up from a long sleep, chases Alphonzo and says he's hers, causing funny problems. Alphonzo, who already likes someone else named Jane, has to deal with Venus's demands and robbers who want the statue. The play ends with Alphonzo understanding what true love is and everything getting fixed in a funny ending, even with a talking statue involved.
