Summary

"Tower of Ivory: A Novel" by Gertrude Franklin Horn Atherton is a story set in a lively European city, likely Munich, that explores how love and chasing your dreams can get complicated. The book primarily centers around John Ordham, a young guy from England, and Margarethe Styr, a fascinating and talented singer, using them to look at what society expects from people, what people want for themselves, and how tricky relationships can be. John admires Margarethe and finds himself drawn into her mysterious world, while Margarethe seems very focused on her art and keeps her past secret. The beginning of the book hints that John and Margarethe might get closer, opening the door to bigger themes of ambition and finding a connection while dealing with all the difficult parts of life.
