Summary

"Discoveries: A Volume of Essays" by William Butler Yeats is a compilation of essays from the early 1900s probing into diverse subjects like art, poetry, drama, and what it means to be human. Yeats, a key player in the Irish Literary Revival, melds old myths with modern ideas, revealing what drives artists. The book shares Yeats' views on the artist's job and why emotions and experiences matter in art. He believes real art comes from blending who you are with smart thinking, stressing how important feelings and real-life presence are in performing and creating. Through these essays, Yeats examines the flaws he sees in modern plays, considers not indulging in pleasures, and discusses how old traditions and new ideas mix in books.
