Summary

"Old Fort Chartres on the Mississippi River" by John T. Faris is a book that tells the story of Fort Chartres, a French fort built in the 1700s on the Mississippi River. This fort was important to the French because it helped them control the land and trade with Native American tribes. The book talks about how the fort was built, what life was like there, and how soldiers from the fort fought with Native Americans. Over time, the river caused problems, and the fort was left to fall apart. Years later, people decided the fort was worth saving as a piece of history that reminds everyone of the early days of America.
