Summary

"Jessie Carlton; The Story of a Girl Who Fought with Little Impulse, the Wizard" by Daniel Wise, tells of a young girl named Jessie Carlton who lives in Glen Morris Cottage, wrestling with her inclination to abandon responsibilities. Easily sidetracked by her own desires, personified as a "wizard" called Impulse, Jessie must find a way to tame her whimsical distractions with the help of her loving family, especially her uncle and her cousin Emily. Through childhood play and thoughtful conversations, Jessie learns greater appreciation of honesty, hard work, and the power of character. As Jessie tries to reign in these urges, readers can see not only her struggle against desire, but also her ability to mature and overcome internal and external turmoil.
