Summary

"Minnie's Pet Cat" by Madeline Leslie is a heartwarming children's tale from the 1800s that centers on the sweet relationship between Minnie and her cat, Fidelle. The story is filled with fun and gentle life lessons about being loyal, being kind, and why it's good to take care of animals, as readers follow Minnie and Fidelle in exploring their close connection and the amusing situations they get into. Minnie adores Fidelle's playful ways, but she also faces challenges when other kids don't treat Fidelle well, presenting opportunities for personal growth. Through Fidelle's cleverness and kind heart, the book looks at the importance of friendship and loyalty, as Minnie learns to defend Fidelle and understand what it means to truly love and care for all creatures.

About the Author

Harriette Newell Woods Baker was an American author of books for children, and editor. Her career as an author began when she was about 30 years old. She devoted herself successfully to novels; but after about 15 years, she wrote popular religious literature. Her most famous book, Tim, the Scissors Grinder, sold half a million copies, and was translated into several languages. Baker published about 200 moral and religious tales under the pen name "Mrs. Madeline Leslie". She also wrote under her own name or initials, and under that of "Aunt Hattie". She wrote chiefly for the young, and was still writing in 1893 when she died.
