"Peter the Whaler" by William Henry Giles Kingston is a 19th-century adventure where a young Irish boy named Peter Lefroy, who starts off as a troublemaking teenager involved in illegal hunting, finds his life changing drastically. After getting into trouble and facing the law, Peter's father sends him on a voyage to Canada on a poorly run ship called the BLACK SWAN. As the story goes on, Peter shows both his strong will and inexperience as he deals with the dangers of of life at sea. His adventures are not only driven by his desire for excitement but also by the lessons he learns while dealing with consequences and navigating the difficulties of friendship and morality, especially when he meets a considerate captain who is very different from the stern Captain Swales.
