Summary

"A Big Temptation" by L. T. Meade follows the adventures and misadventures of Netty and Ben, two siblings yearning for a taste of freedom and joy outside their constrained lives, as they decide to embark on a risky journey. Driven by the temptation of a seaside trip to Southend, orchestrated by Ben, the pair concoct a plan to escape their daily duties with Netty's sickly baby cousin, Dan, in tow. Despite Netty's internal conflict about bringing Dan along, their determination prevails, leading them to a day filled with excitement and treats at the beach. However, their carefree outing takes a turn when Dan's health is compromised due to too many sweets, forcing Netty to confront the consequences of their actions and seek help. The story serves as a gentle exploration of childhood innocence, moral dilemmas, and the ultimate importance of responsibility, compassion, and forgiveness within the bonds of family.
