Summary

"The Strong Arm" by Robert Barr is a historical fiction set in medieval times, where young Count Herbert von Schonburg, a knight back from fighting in the Crusades, gets caught up in conflicts between Christians and Muslims as well as power struggles within his own lands. Early on, Herbert's skill in combat leads to his capture by the forces of Emir Soldan, which brings to light themes of bravery and honor. The story then moves to Gudenfels Castle, where Herbert meets Countess Beatrix, a key person in his emotional changes; themes of loyalty, love, and the duties of family rise to the top. Through his interactions with Beatrix and the challenges he faces, Herbert begins to question the ideas about glory that once drove him, making this a complex and moving story in medieval times.
