With the threat of losing their home hanging over them, Shirley dares to dream of a better future for her sick mother and siblings in a stunning, empty stone barn she finds outside the city. She works as a stenographer and carries the heavy weight of her family's problems on her shoulders. Driven by her mother's illness and the fear of homelessness, she embarks on a quest to find an affordable place to live. During her explorations, she discovers the stone barn and fixates on the idea of turning it into a safe haven for her family.
