Summary

"The Expositor's Bible: The Book of the Twelve Prophets, Vol. 2" by George Adam Smith is a detailed study of several of the Minor Prophets from the Bible. This book looks at Zephaniah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Obadiah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Joel, and Jonah, and tries to explain them by looking closer at the history, important meanings, and religious effects of their writings; it gives a full picture of these prophets during a time of big changes in Israel's history. The book starts by explaining it will focus on those prophets who aren't as well-known, and how the times they lived in shaped what they wrote; it tells how each chapter is set up, with introductions, explanations, and how they fit into the bigger picture, recognizing that figuring out these old texts can be hard. By mixing history with careful thought, the author gets ready to take a good look at Israel's prophets, using new knowledge to understand these old writings, and to show how prophecy changed along with what was happening in the world around them.
