After losing her father, Bird is left alone in the world, with only her uncle, John O’More, a gruff figure from New York City, to turn to. Her dreams of following in her father's footsteps as an artist are challenged by the uncertainty of her new life and her uncle's apparent lack of enthusiasm for the responsibility of providing her care.
