Confessions of a Young Man by George Moore is a late 19th-century story where a young man navigates the tricky waters of growing up. As he shifts from a boy to a man, he thinks deeply about art, life, and who he is, looking back at the events, desires, and people that mold his view of the world. Beginning with his early experiences in a family coach, where talk of a famous novel sparks a love for poetry, especially Shelley's, the book shows his early difficulties in school and being kicked out for not working hard enough. Later, he dreams of being a steeplechase rider. When he goes to London, his artistic side grows stronger, and he really wants to show who he is through art as he deals with complicated social situations and artist goals, which leads him to Paris and a search for art and relationships.
