Summary

"The Confessions of Jean-Jacques Rousseau — Volume 05" by Jean-Jacques Rousseau is a memoir from the 1700s where the author remembers his younger days. The story follows the author's love life and how he has developed his philosophies as a young man in Chambery. When he is nearly 21 years old, he gets a job and meets Madame de Warrens who he shares a deep and complicated love with. As he recounts his time living with her, he looks at all of the complex relationships around her, and his own struggles with love. A servant named Claude Anet kills himself which shows the emotional complexity of the story. He talks of both the happy and hard parts of this time in his emotional development and personal growth.
