Summary

"The Sundered Streams: The History of a Memory That Had No Full Stops" by Reginald Farrer is a story set in a quiet English village, which looks into the Dadd family as they experience big changes because of their new money. The main character, Kingston Darnley, has to figure out who he is and what he wants while dealing with what society expects from him. The Dadds were already important in the village of Darnley-on-Downe, but when they find coal on their land, they become rich and challenge the way things have always been. Kingston struggles with his family's expectations and his own wish to be true to himself as problems start within the family, especially about who Kingston will marry. The story explores what it means to be accepted by society, to have personal goals, and to deal with old traditions clashing with new ideas.
