Summary

"Macleod of Dare" by William Black is a story about Sir Keith Macleod, the last son of Lady Macleod, as he gets ready to leave his family's castle for London. The book looks at the themes of family ties, what people have to do because of who they are, and how different the rough Scottish Highlands are from the fancy city life. As the family, especially his mother, says goodbye, the story shows Lady Macleod’s heavy heart because she has already lost other sons in battle, while her cousin tries to lighten the sad mood with happiness. Eager for new experiences, Keith's strong spirit shines, which worries his family who want to hold on to their traditions and heritage. His journey from the rugged Isle of Mull suggests how much his relationships and identity will change as he faces love and a clash of cultures.
