Summary

"The Colloquies of Erasmus, Volume I" by Desiderius Erasmus is a collection of conversations from the 1500s full of clever observations about people and the world. These witty chats tackle everything from polite behavior to schooling and even religion, all while making you laugh and think. The book kicks off with Erasmus sharing his hopes for a young friend, urging him to become smart and good. He also mentions some trouble with a fake version of his book, reminding everyone he cares about getting things right. As the dialogues unfold, we see examples of being kind, greeting people properly, and why learning and good sense matter, setting the stage for a closer examination of how people act and how society works, all guided by Erasmus' famous humanist ideas.
