Summary

"Selections from Erasmus: Principally from his Epistles" by P. S. Allen is a collection of letters that offers a window into the mind of Erasmus, a famous Renaissance thinker, probably put together in the early 1900s. The letters give insight into English society and the significant changes happening in Europe during that time. Erasmus writes about education, humanism, and his observations on society, and even mentions famous people like Thomas More and John Colet, giving readers a peek into their lives, as the book starts out by talking about Erasmus's early life and how he got interested in classical learning during the Renaissance. It describes how, even though he had a tough childhood, he learned to love language and learning, which helped him become a well-known author and intellectual as he spent time at schools in different places, like Deventer, Paris, and England, which laid the groundwork for his important books and friendships, which captures Erasmus's curiosity and the experiences that made him an important person in education and writing.
