Summary

"Letters of John Calvin, Volume II" by Jean Calvin is a collection of letters from the 1500s that gives us a look into the life and ideas of John Calvin, who was a big deal in the Protestant Reformation. In the beginning, Calvin talks about how he's not very popular and the problems happening in Switzerland, especially when it comes to the Vaudois people and the King of France. He also cheers on a friend, Monsieur de Falais, telling him to stay strong in his faith. As the letters go on, Calvin writes about things like picking church leaders, his own health, and how the church is doing; this shows us how tough things were for Christians during this time of change.

About the Author

John Calvin was a French theologian, pastor and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation. He was a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism, including its doctrines of predestination and of God's absolute sovereignty in the salvation of the human soul from death and eternal damnation. Calvinist doctrines were influenced by and elaborated upon the Augustinian and other Christian traditions. Various Congregational, Reformed and Presbyterian churches, which look to Calvin as the chief expositor of their beliefs, have spread throughout the world.
