Children of loneliness

"Children of Loneliness" by Anzia Yezierska is a powerful story about Rachel Ravinsky, a young woman who emigrated from the old world to America; she wrestles with who she is as she attempts to find her place in a new society. This book looks at big ideas like being alone, wanting something more, and trying to fit in when everything is new and different. Initially, we find Rachel struggling with feeling out of place in her own family, especially against their old-fashioned customs. Coming home from college, she argues with her parents, who remind her of the life she's trying to leave behind. It leads to arguments at dinner, as she wrestles between her dreams to live a new life and balancing the expectations of her family. This shows how hard it is for immigrants to be accepted in America while feeling stuck between their family connections and where they came from.
