The Highland glen : $b or, plenty and famine

"The Highland Glen; or, Plenty and Famine" by Matilda Wrench is a story set in the 1840s, in the rugged western Highlands of Argyleshire, and shows the dramatic swings between times of plenty and desperate hunger that Highland families experienced. The main characters are the M’Kenzie family who, at first living joyfully, see their world turned upside down when crop failures bring famine and suffering; the story tells of a father's fight to feed his children, a mother's strong faith, and how this tough time affects their hearts and souls, highlighting the strength of family ties and the importance of faith when things look hopeless, and asks for kindness to those who are suffering.
