Summary

"The Competitive Nephew" by Montague Glass, is a funny story set in the early 1900s that follows people working in the clothing business, as they experience family drama, rivalry, and what happens when people try to get ahead. The story mainly focuses on Aaron Pinsky, who has asthma and really likes his nephew Fillup, who wants to achieve a lot. Then there are Sam Zaretsky and Max Fatkin, who are business partners. They have to deal with the difficulties of running a store while also managing Aaron's involvement and his dreams for his nephew, which leads to some strange and awkward situations. The novel starts with Sam and Max feeling annoyed about their competitors and worrying about hiring guys who might want to steal their business. Then Aaron Pinsky shows up, bragging about how great his nephew Fillup is since he finished business college. Max and Sam are not eager, but they eventually hire Fillup to appease Aaron. Aaron's asthma becomes a source of funny moments and conversations. The beginning of the book introduces different storylines about wanting to get ahead, being loyal, and how weird family relationships can be when mixed with work.
