Summary

"The Third Circle" by Frank Norris is a story that happens in Chinatown, San Francisco, in the early 1900s. Two friends, Hillegas and Miss Ten Eyck, start out having a nice time in a Chinatown restaurant, but their visit becomes serious when they get mixed up in a shady secret world they were not expecting. They visit a fortune-teller and get a tattoo. But things take a turn for the worse when Miss Ten Eyck disappears, and Hillegas has to figure out what happened to her, and what the mystery of the tattoo might mean. The novel explores themes of identity, and how easily people can find themselves in a strange situation, and the lurking dangers that can be found in a big city.
