Summary

"The Eternal Masculine: Stories of Men and Boys" by Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews is a collection of tales portraying different male figures as they experience life. The stories are about masculinity, mostly observed through youthful experiences and how males connect with each other - especially when out in nature. It looks at both younger and older men as they figure out who they are and how they relate to others by participating in activities, such as fishing, or through friendships. The first story is about Jack and Josef who are walking through a Canadian forest on a fishing trip. The story captures their friendship, where Jack is interested in learning from Josef's knowledge of the woods. As they make their way, the boys have conversations, and the reader sees who they are as people and begins to imagine the type of relationship they have.
