Summary

"Fighting the Flames" by R. M. Ballantyne, throws us back to a time before modern technology, where the British Fire Brigade fought blazes with horse-drawn engines and shouted commands into the night. This novel introduces us to Mr. James Auberly, a rich and severe man, whose comfortable home is upended by disaster one chilly November night. The story follows Willie Willders, a young boy drawn to the excitement and heroism of the firefighters battling the flames. The courageous efforts led by figures like Chief Superintendent Mr. Braidwood, illustrate the dangers and bravery involved in firefighting during this period, weaving together personal stories and themes of courage and community.
