"Moby-Dick; or, The Whale" by Herman Melville is a story set in the 1800s that looks at what happens when people become obsessed with something, seek revenge, and how humans connect with nature. It all starts with a man called Ishmael, who decides to go on a whaling trip on a ship named the Pequod. The ship is led by Captain Ahab, a strange man who wants revenge on a whale. When the story starts, Ishmael tells us why he wants to go to sea and what he thinks about life. He paints a picture of the busy city of New Bedford and shows how the ocean can draw people in. Before he starts his journey, Ishmael thinks about his problems and why he wants to go on this adventure. He gets to New Bedford, has trouble finding a place to stay, and meets a funny landlord and a harpooner, which sets the stage for what happens to him at sea.
