Summary

"Monster of the Asteroid" by Ray Cummings is a science fiction story set in 1965 where Thomas Ralston and his fiancé, Dora Franklin, find themselves captives of a nefarious group controlled by the Supreme One, an alien entity inhabiting a desolate asteroid that is the planet itself. Lured into space by a mysterious figure named Bragg, Thomas and Dora are thrust into a world where humans from Earth, Mars, and Venus are forced to participate in the Supreme One's scheme to form a society under its oppressive rule. As tensions rise among the captives, Thomas discovers the Supreme One's power lies in its ability to control headless physical forms, and he becomes central to a brewing revolt. The narrative builds to a climactic struggle as the captives unite against their captors, fighting for survival and freedom against the formidable alien consciousness.
