Summary

"Lost Diaries" by Maurice Baring is a collection of imagined diary entries that lets readers peek into the lives of a range of historical and literary personalities from the past. Through wit and humor, the book offers commentary on people such as Iseult of Brittany, King Cophetua, and the famous Sherlock Holmes. The collection starts with the everyday troubles of a schoolboy in 1884, Smith Minor, who describes his school life, lunar eclipses and football matches. Following this, Iseult of Brittany writes of her feelings and experiences before she marries Sir Tristram, showing the conflict between what she expects and what society wants. Readers can expect to laugh and be moved by the collection of ordinary and not-so-ordinary people as their lives are brought to the page.
