Summary

"Johnny Ludlow, Third Series" by Mrs. Henry Wood is a collection of stories set in the late 1800s, following Johnny Ludlow as he gets mixed up in different people's lives and situations. Through Johnny's eyes, the stories show us complicated relationships, especially when it comes to love, doing what's right, and the differences between people's social class, all set in the countryside. One of the first stories tells of the Page family near Copse Farm, where Mr. Page is sick, and his daughters Abigail and Susan are working hard at home, while Jessy, the youngest, is back from school. Trouble brews when John Drench falls for Jessy, causing problems between her and her sisters. Jessy, who seems pretty but lazy, adds to the tension. Things get even more mysterious when Jessy disappears, making everyone wonder what happened to her and creating a sense of mystery in the rest of the series.
