Summary

"The Real Man" by Francis Lynde is a story set in the early 1900s about a bank teller, J. Montague Smith, whose life in Lawrenceville takes a sharp turn. When Montague is faced with difficulties from a loan he signed off on, the shiny image of his perfect life fades away. The story looks at what happens when someone chases success, faces tough moral choices, and tries to figure out who they really are, especially when powerful people and money problems get involved. After a breaking point involving violence with the bank's leader, Montague runs away from his old life, leading to a wild journey where he has to decide what kind of person he wants to be.
