Summary

"Voltaire's Philosophical Dictionary" by Voltaire is a journey through the mind of an enlightenment thinker, presenting reflections on morality, ethics, and intellect, and their connections to the world. The book questions established ideas and dares readers to think for themselves about topics ranging from authority and reason to the nature of love. It opens by arguing that philosophy is for a select group of enlightened individuals, and puts emphasis on personal reflection and critical thought when grappling with philosophical ideas. What follows is a range of themes in dictionary-like entries that explore major philosophical questions while challenging social rules and ways of understanding the world.
