"An Ounce of Cure" by Alan Edward Nourse is a funny story that makes fun of health care in modern times. It follows James Wheatley, a regular 55-year-old man, who originally goes to the doctor to seek help for pain in his little toe. This seemingly small problem gets bigger when each health expert he sees keeps sending him to other specialists. The story shows how Wheatley's original toe pain becomes less important as he gets caught up in lots of tests and advice. The story shows, with humor, how confusing and annoying it can be for patients to find their way through the world of medicine when doctors concentrate on individual symptoms and not the actual causes of illness.
