Summary

"The Last of the Barons — Volume 02" by Edward Bulwer Lytton Lytton, is a story set in the late 1400s during England's Wars of the Roses. It mainly follows Richard Neville, the Earl of Warwick, nicknamed the "Kingmaker," who was super important back then. The story looks at power, staying true to someone, and how tricky things were between nobles while England was fighting between the York and Lancaster groups. We see Marmaduke Nevile, Sir Guy Nevile's son, trying to get in good with the Earl of Warwick, who's related to him. As he figures out the king's court, Marmaduke sees the amazing parts and sneaky stuff of being a noble, meeting the royal family and seeing everyone fighting for power. The story gets more interesting as Warwick struggles with who he's loyal to, especially when he has to make a big deal with France and deal with the Woodville family, who are connected to King Edward IV, gaining more power. This mix of family and politics, along with Warwick being such a strong character, really shows what it was like in a time of fancy living and big trouble.
