Summary

"Homo Sum — Volume 05" by Georg Ebers is a story set in a past era that follows Paulus, a religious hermit, as he wrestles with his feelings of guilt and a desire to be forgiven for something bad that happened with a young artist named Polykarp. Paulus is trying to be spiritually pure, but his feelings get in the way, especially after Polykarp is seriously hurt. Paulus feels terrible about what he's done and tries to make up for his mistakes, while all around him, there's also trouble brewing as people prepare for an attack. His journey to become a better person is made even harder by the difficult relationships he has with others and the problems faced by the community. This sets the stage for a dramatic story about personal struggle and redemption.
