"Kenelm Chillingly — Complete" by Edward Bulwer Lytton is a story set in the mid-1800s that follows Kenelm Chillingly, a young man grappling with weighty questions about who he is and how he fits into his family and the larger world. The story begins by introducing Kenelm's parents and the excitement around his birth, which quickly turns odd due to his father's strange reaction at his serious nature. As Kenelm grows, his philosophical nature sets him apart, while his family and their own selfish desires try to define him. With his cousin Gordon eyeing up his family's riches and a family council even controlling his name, Kenelm's path is set towards a journey of discovery, filled with debates and characters who will shape his outlook on existence.
