Summary

"Through Magic Glasses and Other Lectures" by Arabella B. Buckley is a collection of exciting science talks for kids, written a long time ago. Picking up after "The Fairyland of Science," it looks at different science ideas, mostly focusing on the awesome things you can see with tools like telescopes and microscopes. The main idea is about how cool it is to find the hidden world around us using these science tools, pushing us to be curious and learn more. At the beginning, we meet a character called the magician, sitting in a tower room lit by the moon, getting ready to watch a total lunar eclipse. He's shown as a teacher and scientist who loves what he does, excited to show the wonders of space to his students at a school for working boys. The magician has all sorts of equipment around him, like a telescope, spectroscope, and microscope, each one opening up a new way to explore the universe and the tiny world. While waiting for the eclipse, he thinks about how fun it is to show off the hidden details of nature, showing the learning and exploring spirit that runs through all the lectures.
