Summary

"The Prince" by Niccolò Machiavelli is a 16th-century guide that examines power, offering rulers practical advice on keeping their kingdoms secure. It divides principalities into different kinds and discusses how to conquer and govern them well, inviting everyone to think about political leadership realistically. Machiavelli kicks things off by talking about different principalities, such as those passed down through families and new ones, and the different problems they face. He uses history to back up his ideas, explaining that new leaders often struggle to win over their people. He also points out that rulers need to change their strategies depending on their states and the needs of their people ultimately laying a foundation for his status as a key figure in political thought.
